Well I just finished filming all the live action scenes for my new web series "Ask Jason!" It is the first episode. Any future episodes will depend on how many likes and shares it gets so make you do so when it comes out.
I had a lot of fun doing this. Using YouTube to guide me I did all the makeup FX myself. I wasn't going for perfection since this is a comedy not a horror but even still I don't think I did that bad of a job. I have done bruising effects in the past but that was many many many years ago.
Anyway, check out the gallery below and let me know what you think. The rest of this film will be done with animation - using CrazyTalk software. I am hoping to bang this out in a couple of weeks but we will have to see.
The best part about doing the rest of this film is that I can do it at my own pace - animation is good like that. Unlike filming, I don't have a certain time frame to get things done. Today I had to wait till it got dark so I didn't have problems with the glare from the sun coming in from a window.
Though I love working on a set, animation is a lot easier - as far as time and location - than actually filming. Plus, if a shot doesn't come out well or doesn't work when you are editing, you can just go back to the program and move the camera instead of having to schedule reshoots.
Well that is all I got for tonight. Let me know what you think of my makeup FX, pointers for next time and what your thoughts are about filming live and animation (looking to hear from both filmmakers and audience members alike.)
Now to do some editing before calling it a night. Goodnight!
