My very first comic book is based on the short film I made of the same name.
My First Comic Book

Transitioning from Film to Comic: A Unique Adventure

I wanted to try something different in my creative journey. So, I created a horror comic book. Initially, I wasn’t sure if it would be something I would enjoy. To ease my concerns, I decided to base it on my popular short film, "Hunter."

The main reason for this choice was practical: I still had the animation files. This made it easier to change camera angles across different panels. The process flowed more smoothly because I had a solid foundation to work from.

To my surprise, I truly enjoyed working on this project. I am already deep into creating a second issue and planning some limited series comics. This new venture is exciting, and I am learning as I go. I put everything I learned into practice with each new issue.

Character Development Through a New Medium

I have always enjoyed making short films. However, one drawback is that characters can often feel flat. In a short film, you have to get to the point quickly. That often sacrifices character development for the sake of storytelling brevity. The narrative becomes completely story-driven and not character-driven.

In contrast, I prefer writing stories that focus on characters and their journeys. I had the chance to explore this with the few novels I wrote. Now, with the comic book medium, I can return to that kind of storytelling.

Why Not a Full-Length Film?

You might wonder, why didn’t I create a full-length film that focuses more on character development? The answer is straightforward: I simply lacked the time. As the sole creator, I handle every aspect of my short films, which is time-consuming. As I attempt to build my website, YouTube channel, and Patreon page, I have realized the need to produce content quickly.

Believe it or not, I completed this comic issue faster than a short film. Although it will take longer to create characters, settings, and props in the future, I believe the effort will be worthwhile. I will get to tell my story with the extensive character development I so cherish.

A New Plan for Future Issues

The plan is to create several issues of my limited series simultaneously and then release them monthly. The prospect of this excites me. It may mark a new path for Four Sides of Cross Productions. Only time will tell where this journey leads.

My first issue will be available on June 12th on Amazon. Once I have the link, I will add it to this post. Be sure to return on the 12th to grab your copy. I also plan to provide a PDF version for my "Knower" level Patreons this week.

If you want behind-the-scenes content and podcasts, consider becoming a Patreon. I have plans for a live event soon, which will be an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Until that day arrives, God bless you, and may all your nightmares be memorable.

  • What is Four Sides of Cross?
FSOC was a name of a literary magazine I was trying to create in late 90s. Each side of the Cross was suppose to be the different story categories from this magazine: Love, Despair, Hope and Horror. Though the magazine never came to be, the name stuck and I have been using it every since.
  • What kind of stories will we find here?
Most of my stories fit in the horror genre, though I do branch out to other categories from time to time.
  • Is this site safe for children?
I, personally, feel there is not any content that I wouldn't show my daughters but I highly recommend that parents look through the site themselves. Since this mainly contains horror content, I feel parents should be the ones to decide if this content presented here is something they are okay with their children to watch. The choice should always be up to the parents.
