Welcome to Ironport

Excerpt from Ironport novel.
Alexis walked down the street, taking in the city's horrible condition. She had fought in a bloody war to protect this once-great nation. Many people had died to keep its people free. Though they had fought in foreign lands, they hadn't known that the true enemy was their own leaders.
At this time of night, very few people roamed the streets. Most people who were out were drug addicts looking to score or were criminals themselves. A few law-abiding citizens were walking about, but they were few and far between. Most had enough sense to stay at home when the sun set.
Alexis feared no one roaming these streets. At just under seven feet tall and 275 pounds of pure muscle, she wasn't someone most people were foolish enough to challenge. Her size alone was usually enough to make them think twice.
If her size wasn't enough of a deterrent, her appearance certainly helped. Despite the warm night, a long leather trench coat covered her broad shoulders. She left it open, partially revealing the two guns strapped to her thighs. Heavy combat boots reached her knees. Given the heat, she wore a black, low-cut half-shirt and tight black bicycle shorts.
Not stylish, perhaps, but efficient.
She was far from being an ugly woman despite her size. Even the fresh scar across the left side of her face didn't take away from her beauty. If she were normal-sized, boys would have lined up to date her. Her bronze skin, complemented by her dark hair and eyes, caught their attention, but her height and muscular build gave them pause.
She wore black makeup that looked more like heavy mascara that ran down her face like tears. This was done on purpose. Her tears of pain were a reminder of her loss and her current mission. A mask of pain, you could call it, though she was not trying to hide her identity.
48 hours until Ironport.
